다리우스 왕 이년 여섯째 달, 그 달 초하루에, 학개 예언자가 주님의 말씀을 받아서, 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨 유다 총독과 여호사닥의 아들 여호수아 대제사장에게 전하였다. 만군의 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. "이 백성이 말하기를 '때가 되지 않았다. 주님의 성전을 지을 때가 되지 않았다'고 한다."
학개 예언자가 주님의 말씀을 받아 전한다. "성전이 이렇게 무너져 있는데, 지금이 너희만 잘 꾸민 집에 살고 있을 때란 말이냐? 나 만군의 주가 말한다. 너희는 살아온 지난날을 곰곰이 돌이켜 보아라.1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jozadak,[a] the high priest: 2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the LORD’s house.’”
3 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”
5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” 7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the LORD.

...오늘 말씀을 보면서 나는 무엇을 위해 살고 있을까 생각을 하게 됩니다....필요에 따라 먹고 마시고 쇼핑하고 등등 다 하지만....그럼애도 항상 만족함이 없고 물질에 대한 욕심은 매일 커져가고 있습니다. 그리고 가치없는 것에 대해 너무 많은 신경을 쓰고 있지 않나 생각 듭니다. 오늘 아침 정말 나의 삶의 의미와 수단과 방법에 대해 생각 해 보고 있습니다. 주님께서 기뻐하는 삶을 살아가고 싶고 또한 하나님의 성전을 이땅에서 함께 건설 해 나가고 싶습니다.
