Genesis 8:1-5

그 때에 하나님이, 노아와 방주에 함께 있는 모든 들짐승과 집짐승을 돌아보실 생각을 하시고, 땅 위에 바람을 일으키시니, 물이 빠지기 시작하였다. 땅 속의 깊은 샘들과 하늘의 홍수 문들이 닫히고, 하늘에서 내리는 비도 그쳤다. 땅에서 물이 줄어들고 또 줄어들어서, 백오십 일이 지나니, 물이 많이 빠졌다. 일곱째 달 열이렛날에, 방주가 아라랏 산에 머물러 쉬었다. 물은 열째 달이 될 때까지 줄곧 줄어들어서, 그 달 곧 열째 달 초하루에는 산 봉우리들이 드러났다.But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.

Genesis 7:17-24

땅 위에서는 홍수가 사십 일 동안 계속되었다. 물이 불어나서, 방주가 땅에서 높이 떠올랐다. 물이 불어나서 땅에 크게 넘치니, 방주가 물 위로 떠다녔다. 땅에 물이 크게 불어나서, 온 하늘 아래에 있는 모든 높은 산들이 물에 잠겼다. 물은 그 높은 산들을 잠그고도, 열다섯 자나 더 불어났다.새와 집짐승과 들짐승과 땅에서 기어다니는 모든 것과 사람까지, 살과 피를 지니고 땅 위에서 움직이는 모든 것들이 다 죽었다. 마른 땅 위에서 코로 숨을 쉬며 사는 것들이 모두 죽었다. 이렇게 주님께서는 땅 위에 사는 모든 생물을 없애 버리셨다. 사람을 비롯하여 짐승까지, 길짐승과 공중의 새에 이르기까지, 땅 위에서 모두 없애 버리셨다. 다만 노아와 방주에 들어간 사람들과 짐승들만이 살아 남았다. 물이 불어나서, 백오십 일 동안이나 땅을 뒤덮었다.For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. ,Every living thing that moved on the earth perished--birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

Genesis 7:13-16

They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark.The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in.

Genesis 7:5-12

Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month--on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

Genesis 7:1-4

주님께서 노아에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 보니, 이 세상에 의로운 사람이라고는 너밖에 없구나. 너는 식구들을 다 데리고, 방주로 들어가거라. 모든 정결한 짐승은 수컷과 암컷으로 일곱 쌍씩, 그리고 부정한 짐승은 수컷과 암컷으로 두 쌍씩, 네가 데리고 가거라. 그러나 공중의 새는 수컷과 암컷 일곱 쌍씩 데리고 가서, 그 씨가 온 땅 위에 살아 남게 하여라. 이제 이레가 지나면, 내가 사십 일 동안 밤낮으로 땅에 비를 내려서, 내가 만든 생물을 땅 위에서 모두 없애 버릴 것이다." 노아는 주님께서 명하신 대로 다 하였다.The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made." And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.

Genesis 6:15-21

그 방주는 이렇게 만들어라. 길이는 삼백 자, 너비는 쉰 자, 높이는 서른 자로 하고, 그 방주에는 지붕을 만들되, 한 자 치켜올려서 덮고, 방주의 옆쪽에는 출입문을 내고, 위층과 가운데층과 아래층으로 나누어서 세 층으로 만들어라. 내가 이제 땅 위에 홍수를 일으켜서, 하늘 아래에서 살아 숨쉬는 살과 피를 지닌 모든 것을 쓸어 없앨 터이니, 땅에 있는 것들은 모두 죽을 것이다. 그러나 너하고는, 내가 직접 언약을 세우겠다. 너는 아들들과 아내와 며느리들을 모두 데리고 방주로 들어가거라. 살과 피를 지닌 모든 짐승도 수컷과 암컷으로 한 쌍씩 방주로 데리고 들어가서, 너와 함께 살아 남게 하여라. 새도 그 종류대로, 집짐승도 그 종류대로, 땅에 기어다니는 온갖 길짐승도 그 종류대로, 모두 두 마리씩 너에게로 올 터이니, 살아 남게 하여라. 그리고 너는 먹을 수 있는 모든 먹거리를 가져다가 쌓아 두어라. 이것은, 너와 함께 있는 사람들과 짐승들의 먹거리가 될 것이다." 노아는 하나님이 명하신 대로 다 하였다. 꼭 그대로 하였다. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark--you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you. You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them." Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

Genesis 6:9-14

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.

Genesis 6:1-8

사람들이 땅 위에 늘어나기 시작하더니, 그들에게서 딸들이 태어났다. 하나님의 아들들이 사람의 딸들의 아름다움을 보고, 저마다 자기들의 마음에 드는 여자를 아내로 삼았다. 주님께서 말씀하셨다. When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

Genesis 4:19-26

Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah. Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me. If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times." Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD.

Genesis 4:13-18

가인이 주님께 말씀드렸다. "이 형벌은, 제가 짊어지기에 너무 무겁습니다. 오늘 이 땅에서 저를 쫓아내시니, 하나님을 뵙지도 못하고, 이 땅 위에서 쉬지도 못하고, 떠돌아다니게 될 것입니다. 그렇게 되면, 저를 만나는 사람마다 저를 죽이려고 할 것입니다." 주님께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "그렇지 않다. 가인을 죽이는 자는 일곱 갑절로 벌을 받을 것이다." 주님께서는 가인에게 표를 찍어 주셔서, 어느 누가 그를 만나더라도, 그를 죽이지 못하게 하셨다.가인은 주님 앞을 떠나서, 에덴의 동쪽 놋 땅에서 살았다. 가인이 자기 아내와 동침하니, 아내가 임신하여 에녹을 낳았다. 그 때에 가인은 도시를 세우고, 그 도시를 자기 아들의 이름을 따서 에녹이라고 하였다. 에녹은 이랏을 낳고, 이랏은 므후야엘을 낳고, 므후야엘은 므드사엘을 낳고, 므드사엘은 라멕을 낳았다.Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." But the LORD said to him, "Not so ; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.

Genesis 4:6-12

주님께서 가인에게 말씀하셨다. "어찌하여 네가 화를 내느냐? 얼굴빛이 달라지는 까닭이 무엇이냐? 네가 올바른 일을 하였다면, 어찌하여 얼굴빛이 달라지느냐? 네가 올바르지 못한 일을 하였으니, 죄가 너의 문에 도사리고 앉아서, 너를 지배하려고 한다. 너는 그 죄를 잘 다스려야 한다." 가인이 아우 아벨에게 말하였다. "우리, 들로 나가자." 그들이 들에 있을 때에, 가인이 그의 아우 아벨을 쳐죽였다. 주님께서 가인에게 물으셨다. "너의 아우 아벨이 어디에 있느냐?" 그가 대답하였다. "모릅니다. 제가 아우를 지키는 사람입니까?" 주님께서 말씀하셨다. "네가 무슨 일을 저질렀느냐? 너의 아우의 피가 땅에서 나에게 울부짖는다.이제 네가 땅에서 저주를 받을 것이다. 땅이 그 입을 벌려서, 너의 아우의 피를 너의 손에서 받아 마셨다. 네가 밭을 갈아도, 땅이 이제는 너에게 효력을 더 나타내지 않을 것이다. 너는 이 땅 위에서 쉬지도 못하고, 떠돌아다니게 될 것이다."Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?" The LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."

Genesis 4:1-5

아담이 자기 아내 하와와 동침하니, 아내가 임신하여, 가인을 낳았다. 하와가 말하였다. She said, "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man." Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Genesis 3:20-24

아담은 자기 아내의 이름을 하와라고 하였다. 그가 생명이 있는 모든 것의 어머니이기 때문이다.주 하나님이 가죽옷을 만들어서, 아담과 그의 아내에게 입혀 주셨다. 주 하나님이 말씀하셨다. "보아라, 이 사람이 우리 가운데 하나처럼, 선과 악을 알게 되었다. 이제 그가 손을 내밀어서, 생명나무의 열매까지 따서 먹고, 끝없이 살게 하여서는 안 된다." 그래서 주 하나님은 그를 에덴 동산에서 내쫓으시고, 그가 흙에서 나왔으므로, 흙을 갈게 하셨다. 그를 쫓아내신 다음에, 에덴 동산의 동쪽에 그룹들을 세우시고, 빙빙 도는 불칼을 두셔서, 생명나무에 이르는 길을 지키게 하셨다.Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Genesis 3:14-19

주 하나님이 뱀에게 말씀하셨다. "네가 이런 일을 저질렀으니, 모든 집짐승과 들짐승 가운데서 네가 저주를 받아, 사는 동안 평생토록 배로 기어다니고, 흙을 먹어야 할 것이다. 내가 너로 여자와 원수가 되게 하고, 너의 자손을 여자의 자손과 원수가 되게 하겠다. 여자의 자손은 너의 머리를 상하게 하고, 너는 여자의 자손의 발꿈치를 상하게 할 것이다." 여자에게는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "내가 너에게 임신하는 고통을 크게 더할 것이니, 너는 고통을 겪으며 자식을 낳을 것이다. 네가 남편을 지배하려고 해도 남편이 너를 다스릴 것이다." 남자에게는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "네가 아내의 말을 듣고서, 내가 너에게 먹지 말라고 한 그 나무의 열매를 먹었으니, 이제, 땅이 너 때문에 저주를 받을 것이다. 너는, 죽는 날까지 수고를 하여야만, 땅에서 나는 것을 먹을 수 있을 것이다. 땅은 너에게 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴를 낼 것이다. 너는 들에서 자라는 푸성귀를 먹을 것이다. 너는 흙에서 나왔으니, 흙으로 돌아갈 것이다. 그 때까지, 너는 얼굴에 땀을 흘려야 낟알을 먹을 수 있을 것이다. 너는 흙이니, 흙으로 돌아갈 것이다." So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."

Genesis 3:8-13

그 남자와 그 아내는, 날이 저물고 바람이 서늘할 때에, 주 하나님이 동산을 거니시는 소리를 들었다. 남자와 그 아내는 주 하나님의 낯을 피하여서, 동산 나무 사이에 숨었다. 주 하나님이 그 남자를 부르시며 물으셨다. "네가 어디에 있느냐?" 그가 대답하였다. "하나님께서 동산을 거니시는 소리를, 제가 들었습니다. 저는 벗은 몸인 것이 두려워서 숨었습니다." 하나님이 물으셨다. "네가 벗은 몸이라고, 누가 일러주더냐? 내가 너더러 먹지 말라고 한 그 나무의 열매를, 네가 먹었느냐?" 그 남자는 핑계를 대었다. "하나님께서 저와 함께 살라고 짝지어 주신 여자, 그 여자가 그 나무의 열매를 저에게 주기에, 제가 그것을 먹었습니다." 주 하나님이 그 여자에게 물으셨다. "너는 어쩌다가 이런 일을 저질렀느냐?" 여자도 핑계를 대었다. "뱀이 저를 꾀어서 먹었습니다." Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?" The man said, "The woman you put here with me--she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

Genesis 3:1-7

뱀은, 주 하나님이 만드신 모든 들짐승 가운데서 가장 간교하였다. 뱀이 여자에게 물었다. "하나님이 정말로 너희에게, 동산 안에 있는 모든 나무의 열매를 먹지 말라고 말씀하셨느냐?" 여자가 뱀에게 대답하였다. "우리는 동산 안에 있는 나무의 열매를 먹을 수 있다. 그러나 하나님은, 동산 한가운데 있는 나무의 열매는, 먹지도 말고 만지지도 말라고 하셨다. 어기면 우리가 죽는다고 하셨다." 뱀이 여자에게 말하였다. "너희는 절대로 죽지 않는다. 하나님은, 너희가 그 나무 열매를 먹으면, 너희의 눈이 밝아지고, 하나님처럼 되어서, 선과 악을 알게 된다는 것을 아시고, 그렇게 말씀하신 것이다." 여자가 그 나무의 열매를 보니, 먹음직도 하고, 보암직도 하였다. 그뿐만 아니라, 사람을 슬기롭게 할 만큼 탐스럽기도 한 나무였다. 여자가 그 열매를 따서 먹고, 함께 있는 남편에게도 주니, 그도 그것을 먹었다. 그러자 두 사람의 눈이 밝아져서, 자기들이 벗은 몸인 것을 알고, 무화과나무 잎으로 치마를 엮어서, 몸을 가렸다. Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' " "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Genesis 2:18-25

주 하나님이 말씀하셨다. "남자가 혼자 있는 것이 좋지 않으니, 그를 돕는 사람, 곧 그에게 알맞은 짝을 만들어 주겠다." 주 하나님이 들의 모든 짐승과 공중의 모든 새를 흙으로 빚어서 만드시고, 그 사람에게로 이끌고 오셔서, 그 사람이 그것들을 무엇이라고 하는지를 보셨다. 그 사람이 살아 있는 동물 하나하나를 이르는 것이 그대로 동물들의 이름이 되었다. 그 사람이 모든 집짐승과 공중의 새와 들의 모든 짐승에게 이름을 붙여 주었다. 그러나 그 남자를 돕는 사람 곧 그의 짝이 없었다. 그래서 주 하나님이 그 남자를 깊이 잠들게 하셨다. 그가 잠든 사이에, 주 하나님이 그 남자의 갈빗대 하나를 뽑고, 그 자리는 살로 메우셨다. 주 하나님이 남자에게서 뽑아 낸 갈빗대로 여자를 만드시고, 여자를 남자에게로 데리고 오셨다. 그 때에 그 남자가 말하였다. "이제야 나타났구나, 이 사람! 뼈도 나의 뼈, 살도 나의 살, 남자에게서 나왔으니 여자라고 부를 것이다." 그러므로 남자는 아버지와 어머니를 떠나, 아내와 결합하여 한 몸을 이루는 것이다. 남자와 그 아내가 둘 다 벌거벗고 있었으나, 부끄러워하지 않았다. The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Genesis 2:8-17

주 하나님이 동쪽에 있는 에덴에 동산을 일구시고, 지으신 사람을 거기에 두셨다. 주 하나님은 보기에 아름답고 먹기에 좋은 열매를 맺는 온갖 나무를 땅에서 자라게 하시고, 동산 한가운데는 생명나무와 선과 악을 알게 하는 나무를 자라게 하셨다. 강 하나가 에덴에서 흘러나와서 동산을 적시고, 에덴을 지나서는 네 줄기로 갈라져서 네 강을 이루었다. 첫째 강의 이름은 비손인데, 금이 나는 하윌라 온 땅을 돌아서 흘렀다. 그 땅에서 나는 금은 질이 좋았다. 브돌라라는 향료와 홍옥수와 같은 보석도 거기에서 나왔다. 둘째 강의 이름은 기혼인데, 구스 온 땅을 돌아서 흘렀다. 셋째 강의 이름은 티그리스인데, 앗시리아의 동쪽으로 흘렀다. 넷째 강은 유프라테스이다. 주 하나님이 사람을 데려다가 에덴 동산에 두시고, 그 곳을 맡아서 돌보게 하셨다. 주 하나님이 사람에게 명하셨다. "동산에 있는 모든 나무의 열매는, 네가 먹고 싶은 대로 먹어라. 그러나 선과 악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매만은 먹어서는 안 된다. 그것을 먹는 날에는, 너는 반드시 죽는다."Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
