Genesis 37:1-7

야곱은 자기 아버지가 몸붙여 살던 땅 곧 가나안 땅에서 살았다. 야곱의 역사는 이러하다. 열일곱 살 된 소년 요셉이 아버지의 첩들인 빌하와 실바가 낳은 형들과 함께 양을 치는데, 요셉은 형들의 허물을 아버지에게 일러바치곤 하였다. 이스라엘은 늘그막에 요셉을 얻었으므로, 다른 아들들보다 요셉을 더 사랑하여서, 그에게 화려한 옷을 지어서 입혔다. 형들은 아버지가 그를 자기들보다 더 사랑하는 것을 보고서 요셉을 미워하며, 그에게 말 한 마디도 다정스럽게 하는 법이 없었다. 한 번은 요셉이 꿈을 꾸고서 그것을 형들에게 말한 일이 있는데, 그 일이 있은 뒤로부터 형들은 그를 더욱더 미워하였다. 요셉이 형들에게 말하였다. "내가 꾼 꿈 이야기를 한 번 들어 보셔요. 우리가 밭에서 곡식단을 묶고 있었어요. 그런데 갑자기 내가 묶은 단이 우뚝 일어서고, 형들의 단이 나의 단을 둘러서서 절을 하였어요." Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, the land of Canaan. This is the account of Jacob. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it."
