Genesis 41:17-40

바로가 요셉에게 말하였다. "꿈에 내가 나일 강 가에 서 있는데, 살이 찌고 잘생긴 암소 일곱 마리가 강에서 올라와서, 갈밭에서 풀을 뜯었다. 그것들의 뒤를 이어서, 약하고 아주 흉측하고 야윈 다른 암소 일곱 마리가 올라오는데, 이집트 온 땅에서 내가 일찍이 본 일이 없는 흉측하기 짝이 없는 그런 암소들이었다. 그 야위고 흉측한 암소들은 먼저 올라온 기름진 암소 일곱 마리를 잡아먹었다. 흉측한 암소들은 살이 찐 암소들을 잡아먹었는데도, 여전히 굶은 암소처럼 흉측하였다. 그리고는 내가 깨어났다. 내가 또다시 꿈에 보니, 한 줄기에서 자란 이삭 일곱 개가 있는데, 잘 여물고 실한 것들이었다. 그것들의 뒤를 이어서, 다른 이삭 일곱 개가 피어 나오는데, 열풍이 불어서, 시들고 야위고 마른 것들이었다. 그 야윈 이삭이 잘 여문 일곱 이삭을 삼켜 버렸다. 내가 이 꿈 이야기를 마술사와 현인들에게 들려 주었지만, 아무도 나에게 그 꿈을 해몽해 주지 못하였다." 요셉이 바로에게 말하였다. "임금님께서 두 번 꾸신 꿈의 내용은 다 같은 것입니다. 임금님께서 장차 하셔야 할 일을 하나님이 보여 주신 것입니다. 그 좋은 암소 일곱 마리는 일곱 해를 말하고, 잘 여문 이삭 일곱 개도 일곱 해를 말하는 것입니다. 두 꿈이 다 같은 내용입니다. 뒤따라 나온 야위고 흉측한 암소 일곱 마리나, 열풍에 말라 버린 쓸모 없는 이삭 일곱 개도, 역시 일곱 해를 말합니다. 이것들은 흉년 일곱 해를 말하는 것입니다. 이제, 제가 임금님께 말씀드린 바와 같이, 임금님께서 앞으로 하셔야 할 일을 하나님이 보여 주신 것입니다. 앞으로 올 일곱 해 동안에는, 온 이집트 땅에 큰 풍년이 들 것입니다. 그런데 곧 이어서, 일곱 해 동안 흉년이 들 것입니다. 그렇게 되면, 이집트 땅에 언제 풍년이 있었더냐는 듯이, 지나간 일을 다 잊어버리게 될 것입니다. 그리고 기근이 이 땅을 황폐하게 할 것입니다. 풍년이 든 다음에 오는 흉년은 너무나도 심하여서, 이집트 땅에서는 아무도 그 전에 풍년이 든 일을 기억하지 못할 것입니다. 임금님께서 같은 꿈을 두 번이나 거듭 꾸신 것은, 하나님이 이 일을 하시기로 이미 결정하시고, 그 일을 꼭 그대로 하시겠다는 것을 말씀해 주시는 것입니다. 이제 임금님께서는, 명철하고 슬기로운 사람을 책임자로 세우셔서, 이집트 땅을 다스리게 하시는 것이 좋을 듯합니다. 임금님께서는 전국에 관리들을 임명하셔서, 풍년이 계속되는 일곱 해 동안에, 이집트 땅에서 거둔 것의 오분의 일을 해마다 받아들이도록 하심이 좋을 듯합니다. 앞으로 올 풍년에, 그 관리들은 온갖 먹거리를 거두어들이고, 임금님의 권한 아래, 각 성읍에 곡식을 갈무리하도록 하십시오. 이 먹거리는, 이집트 땅에서 일곱 해 동안 이어갈 흉년에 대비해서, 그 때에 이 나라 사람들이 먹을 수 있도록 갈무리해 두셔야 합니다. 그렇게 하시면, 기근이 이 나라를 망하게 하지 못할 것입니다." 바로와 모든 신하들은 이 제안을 좋게 여겼다. 바로가 신하들에게 말하였다. "하나님의 영이 함께 하는 사람을, 이 사람 말고, 어디에서 또 찾을 수 있겠느냐?" 바로가 요셉에게 말하였다. "하나님이 너에게 이 모든 것을 알리셨는데, 너처럼 명철하고 슬기로운 사람이 어디에 또 있겠느냐? 네가 나의 집을 다스리는 책임자가 되어라. 나의 모든 백성은 너의 명령을 따를 것이다. 내가 너보다 높다는 것은, 내가 이 자리에 앉아 있다는 것뿐이다." Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "In my dream I was standing on the bank of the Nile, when out of the river there came up seven cows, fat and sleek, and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven other cows came up--scrawny and very ugly and lean. I had never seen such ugly cows in all the land of Egypt. The lean, ugly cows ate up the seven fat cows that came up first. But even after they ate them, no one could tell that they had done so; they looked just as ugly as before. Then I woke up. "In my dreams I also saw seven heads of grain, full and good, growing on a single stalk. After them, seven other heads sprouted--withered and thin and scorched by the east wind. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads. I told this to the magicians, but none could explain it to me." Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads of grain are seven years; it is one and the same dream. The seven lean, ugly cows that came up afterward are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain scorched by the east wind: They are seven years of famine. "It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do. Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt, but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will ravage the land. The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe. The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon. "And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for foodThis food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine." The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. So Pharaoh asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God ?" Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you."
