2 Timothy 4:9-15
Do your best to come to me quickly,
for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.
I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments.
Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done.
You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message.

Whatever the reason is for Paul's caution against Alexander the metalworker, we learn from this how severely the Lord allowed his servant Paul to be tested and accused at the hands of evil opponents, even to the very end of his life. Also, we can see how people who initially walked the Way with Paul eventually all deserted him. This must have been saddening to Paul since he was losing co-workers in Christ who loved the world more or for various other reasons. It's even more remarkable that Paul ran the race of faith until the end even though people were dropping out on the way. We should taken an example on Paul whenever we feel like stepping down or wanting to go our own way.... Amen!
