여호수아는 이 모든 왕의 도성을 점령하고, 그 왕들을 모두 잡아 칼로 쳐서, 주의 종 모세의 명령을 따라 그들을 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바쳤다.그러나 이스라엘 사람들은, 여호수아가 불태운 하솔을 제외하고는, 언덕 위에 세운 성들을 하나도 불태우지 않았다.이 성들에서 탈취한 노략물과 가축은 이스라엘 자손이 모두 차지하였고, 사람들만 칼로 쳐서 모두 죽이고, 숨쉬는 사람은 한 사람도 남겨 두지 않았다.
모세는, 주께서 자기에게 명하신 대로 여호수아에게 명하였고, 여호수아는 그대로 실행하여, 주께서 모세에게 명하신 것 가운데서, 실행하지 않고 남겨 둔 것은 하나도 없었다.

We can see that Joshua resumes the work of Moses faithfully, without hesitation in any moments. It's strange why God commanded Israel not to burn any of the cities built on their mounds—except Hazor. Overall, envisioning these scenes seem cruel and bloody. I guess this was the only way to carry out the word of God and to glorify Him. How fortunate we can be now, when we no longer have to kill others and offer them as burnt offerings.
