Luke 20:20-26

그리하여 그들은 기회를 엿보다가, 정탐꾼들을 보내서, 이들이 거짓으로 의로운 사람들인 체 행세하면서 예수께로 접근하게 하여, 그의 말씀을 책잡게 하였다. 그렇게 해서, 그들은 예수를 총독의 치리권과 사법권에 넘겨주려고 하였다.그들은 예수께 이렇게 물었다. "선생님, 우리는 선생님이, 바르게 말씀하시고, 가르치시고, 또 사람을 겉모양으로 가리지 않으시고, 하나님의 길을 참되게 가르치고 계시는 줄 압니다. 우리가 황제에게 세금을 바치는 것이 옳습니까, 옳지 않습니까?" 예수께서는 그들의 속셈을 알아채시고서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "데나리온 한 닢을 나에게 보여다오. 이 돈에 누구의 얼굴상과 글자가 새겨져 있느냐?" 그들이 대답하였다. "황제의 것입니다." 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "그러면 황제의 것은 황제에게 돌려주고, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 돌려드려라."그들은 백성 앞에서 예수의 말씀을 책잡지 못하고, 그의 답변에 놀라서 입을 다물었다.Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be honest. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.So the spies questioned him: "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" He saw through their duplicity and said to them, "Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?" "Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
