히브리서 9:15-22

그러므로 그리스도는 새 언약의 중재자이십니다. 그는 첫 번째 언약 아래에서 저지른 범죄에서 사람들을 구속하시기 위하여 죽으심으로써, 부르심을 받은 사람들로 하여금 약속된 영원한 유업을 차지하게 하셨습니다.유언의 효력을 논의하는 경우에는, 유언한 사람이 죽었다는 확인이 꼭 필요합니다.유언이라는 것은 유언한 사람이 죽어야만 효력을 냅니다. 유언한 사람이 살아 있는 동안에는 유언은 아무런 효력이 없기 때문입니다. 이러므로 첫 번째 언약도 피 없이 세운 것은 아닙니다. 모세가 율법을 따라 모든 계명을 백성에게 말한 뒤에, 물과 붉은 양털과 우슬초와 함께 송아지 피와 염소 피를 취하여 언약책과 온 백성에게 뿌리고서,"이것은 하나님께서 여러분에게 명하신 언약의 피입니다" 하고 말하였습니다.또 같은 방식으로 그는 장막과 제사 의식에 쓰이는 모든 기구에도 피를 뿌렸습니다. 율법에 따르면, 거의 모든 것이 피로 깨끗해집니다. 그리고 피를 흘림이 없이는, 죄를 사함이 이루어지지 않습니다; For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood. When Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people. He said, "This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep."In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies. In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
