Hebrews 9:1-10

첫 번째 언약에도 예배 규정과 세상에 속한 성소가 마련되어 있었습니다. 한 장막을 지었는데, 곧 첫째 칸에 해당하는 장막입니다. 그 안에는 촛대와 상이 있고, 빵을 차려 놓았으니, 이 곳을 '성소'라고 하였습니다. 그리고 둘째 휘장 뒤에는, '지성소'라고 하는 장막이 있었습니다. 거기에는 금으로 만든 분향제단과 온통 금으로 입힌 언약궤가 있고, 그 안에는 만나를 담은 금항아리와 싹이 난 아론의 지팡이와 언약을 새긴 두 돌판이 들어 있었습니다. 그리고 그 언약궤 위에는 영광에 빛나는 그룹들이 있어서, 속죄판을 그 날개로 내리덮고 있었습니다. 지금은 이것들을 자세히 말할 때가 아닙니다. 이것들이 이렇게 마련되어 있어서 첫째 칸 장막에는 제사장들이 언제나 들어가서 제사의식을 집행합니다. 그러나 둘째 칸 장막에는 대제사장만 일 년에 한 번만 들어가는데, 그 때에는 반드시 자기 자신을 위하여, 또 백성이 모르고 지은 죄를 사하기 위하여 바칠 피를 가지고 들어갑니다. 이것은 첫째 칸 장막이 서 있는 동안에는 아직 지성소로 들어가는 길이 드러나지 않았음을 성령께서 보여 주시는 것입니다. 이 장막은 현 시대를 상징합니다. 그 장막 제의를 따라 예물과 제사를 드리지만, 그것이 의식 집례자의 양심을 완전하게 해 주지는 못합니다. 이런 것은 다만 먹는 것과 마시는 것과 여러 가지 씻는 예식과 관련된 것이고, 개혁의 때까지 육체를 위하여 부과된 규칙들입니다; Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand, the table and the consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron's staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now. When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance. The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing. This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the new order.
