Genesis 28:16-21

야곱은 잠에서 깨어서, 혼자 생각하였다. '주님께서 분명히 이 곳에 계시는데도, 내가 미처 그것을 몰랐구나.' 그는 두려워하면서 중얼거렸다. "이 얼마나 두려운 곳인가! 이 곳은 다름아닌 하나님의 집이다. 여기가 바로 하늘로 들어가는 문이다." 야곱은 다음날 아침 일찍이 일어나서, 베개 삼아 벤 그 돌을 가져다가 기둥으로 세우고, 그 위에 기름을 붓고, 그 곳 이름을 베델이라고 하였다. 그 성의 본래 이름은 루스였다. 야곱은 이렇게 서원하였다. "하나님께서 저와 함께 계시고, 제가 가는 이 길에서 저를 지켜 주시고, 먹을 것과 입을 것을 주시고,제가 안전하게 저의 아버지 집으로 돌아가게 해주시면, 주님이 저의 하나님이 되실 것이며, 제가 기둥으로 세운 이 돌이 하나님의 집이 될 것이며, 하나님께서 저에게 주신 모든 것에서 열의 하나를 하나님께 드리겠습니다."When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it." He was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven." Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's house, then the LORD will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth."
