Mark 11:27-33

그들은 다시 예루살렘에 들어갔다. 예수께서 성전 뜰에서 거닐고 계실 때에, 대제사장들과 율법학자들과 장로들이 예수께로 와서 물었다. "당신은 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 합니까? 누가 당신에게 이런 일을 할 수 있는 권한을 주었습니까?" 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "나도 너희에게 한 가지를 물어 보겠으니, 나에게 대답해 보아라. 그러면 내가 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지를 너희에게 말하겠다. 요한의 세례가 하늘에서 온 것이냐, 사람에게서 온 것이냐? 내게 대답해 보아라."그들은 자기들끼리 의논하며 말하였다. "'하늘에서 왔다'고 말하면 '어찌하여 그를 믿지 않았느냐'고 할 것이다. 그렇다고 해서 '사람에게서 왔다'고 대답할 수도 없지 않은가?" 그들은 무리를 무서워하고 있었다. 무리가 모두 요한을 참 예언자로 알고 있었기 때문이었다. 그래서 그들이 예수께 대답하였다. "모르겠습니다." 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "나도 내가 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지를 너희에게 말하지 않겠다."They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?" Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John's baptism--was it from heaven, or from men? Tell me!"They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' But if we say, 'From men'...." (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.) So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."
