1 John 3:16-20
그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 자기 목숨을 버리셨습니다. 이것으로 우리가 사랑을 알게 되었습니다. 그러므로 우리도 형제자매를 위하여 목숨을 버리는 것이 마땅합니다.
누구든지 세상 재물을 가지고 있으면서, 자기 형제자매의 궁핍함을 보고도, 마음 문을 닫고 도와주지 않으면, 어떻게 하나님의 사랑이 그 사람 속에 머물겠습니까?
자녀 된 이 여러분, 우리는 말이나 혀로 사랑하지 말고, 행동과 진실함으로 사랑합시다.
이렇게 함으로써 우리는 우리가 진리에서 났음을 알게 될 것입니다. 또 우리는 하나님 앞에서 확신을 가지게 될 것입니다.
우리가 마음에 가책을 받는다 하더라도 우리는 그러한 확신을 가지게 될 것입니다. 하나님은 우리 마음보다 크신 분이시고, 또 모든 것을 알고 계시기 때문입니다.This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence
whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

The problem is that there is a disconnect between Christ laying down his life for us and our lives. If and only if we have accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior who died on the cross and resurrected, then we can know the meaning of true love and we can change in terms of actions and getting to know the truth. Otherwise, it will be hard for us to grasp the meaning of Christ's love and we won't be able to lay down our lives for others. I pray that the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ will touch my heart to be reminded about the love He showed on the cross for me. Amen!
