"Jeremiah 7":“Obey me. Do what I say and I will be your God and you will be my people. Live the way I tell you....They’ve constructed Topheth altars for burning babies in prominent places all through the valley of Ben-hinnom, altars for burning their sons and daughters alive in the fire—a shocking perversion of all that I am and all I command." We may think and claim to know God's heart and desires but it's all wrong. He has no wish to receive from us meaningless sacrifices. Rather, He wants us to obey Him wholeheartedly with only Him governing our lives.
"Jeremiah 8": "... and just keep on going—backward! They stubbornly hold on to their illusions, refuse to change direction." Instead of seeking true healing through spiritual ointments and band-aids, people keep going-backward and refuse to move forward according to God's true word of true life.
"Jeremiah 9": "That you understand and know me. I’m God, and I act in loyal love....Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab. All these nations are big on performance religion—including Israel, who is no better.” If we truly understand and know Him, we will no longer focus on performance religion but our focus will be on truly obeying Him and change of our hearts.
