Titus 1:5-9

내가 그대를 크레타에 남겨둔 것은, 남은 일들을 정리하고, 내가 지시한 대로, 성읍마다 장로들을 세우게 하려는 것입니다.장로는 흠잡을 데가 없어야 하며, 한 아내의 남편이라야 하며, 그 자녀가 신자라야 하며, 방탕하다거나 순종하지 않는다는 비난을 받지 않아야 합니다. 감독은 하나님의 청지기로서, 흠잡을 데가 없으며, 자기 고집대로 하지 아니하며, 쉽게 성내지 아니하며, 술을 즐기지 아니하며, 폭행하지 아니하며, 부정한 이득을 탐하지 아니하는 사람이라야 합니다. 오히려 그는 손님을 잘 대접하며, 선행을 좋아하며, 신중하며, 의로우며, 경건하며, 자제력이 있으며, 신실한 말씀의 가르침을 굳게 지키는 사람이라야 합니다. 그래야 그는 건전한 교훈으로 권면하고, 반대자들을 반박할 수 있을 것입니다.The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
