Chapter 17: Literally speaking, David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; but in essence, David fought off the challenges of Goliath in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom Goliath had defied. The odds changed as the Lord took control over the fight as we can see.

Chapter 18: Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him but had departed Saul. Due to jealousy, he plans to have David killed in the battle against the Philistines but it is apparent that his plans are not coming to fruition because the Spirit of the Lord was on David. We can see that no man can win against God as the battle was not really about Saul vs. David but rather God vs. Saul.

Chapter 19: 그런데 사울이 창을 들고 궁중에 앉아 있을 때에, 주님께서 보내신 악한 영이 또 사울을 강하게 사로잡았다... Why did the Lord send an evil spirit to Saul? Was it merely to test Saul or was it just a piece-wise function to advance David's succession to the throne?

Chapter 20: Jonathan and David. This relationship is more than brotherhood and friends. It shows true love that God wants us to practice. It is hardly possible to love another person more than myself. But this scene truly shows it.

Chapter 21: Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath.... This is the beginning of David's continuous escape from Saul. Although David was a righteous person before God, I think this hardship helped him to continuously grow in wisdom and strength.
