2 Samuel 1: We can see how David has no hatred toward Saul who persecuted him fiercely in the last few months and years. But rather, David laments for Saul and his son Jonathan who was more than a brother to him. Rather than showing happiness and relief, David is truly sorrow for the fate of Saul and Jonathan.
2 Samuel 2: We can continuously see how David converses with God and asks Him for his direction. In the war between the house of David and Saul, we can see how God leads David's troops to victories as his troops have less casualties.
2 Samuel 3: We can see that David had the qualities and wisdom of a good king. For example, when Abner died, David did not eat anything before the sun set and this really pleased the people of Israel for this showed that David was really lamenting for King Saul's cousin and commander-in-chief of his army.
2 Samuel 4: Again, David has no intention to revenge Saul for the past persecutions. And he has no intentions to be in battle against the household of Saul. When Rekab and his brother Baanah brought the head of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to kill you," this was not really good news to David. Rather, David refers to Ish-Boseth as an "innocent man" and rather sentences to death his murderers.
