Psalm 39: David seems to be in awe and fear before the Lord. He prays that God will not withdraw His spirit from him and that He will continuously be with him.
Psalm 40: David knows what truly pleases the Lord, namely not the meaningless sacrifices and offerings. Rather, God wants us to keep in mind that His law in within our hearts. He wants us to confess our sins before Him and to come forward to meet with Him.
Psalm 41: "Have mercy on me, Lord; heal me, for I have sinned against you.” These repeating words throughout this chapter show the center of David's heart as he truly seeks God's protection and preservation in his life.
Psalm 42: David really thirsts for God and his soul really seeks to be with God all the time. Though he is disturbed by the oppression of his enemies, he is hopeful in God who is his rock.
Psalm 43: David is downcast and seems disturbed by deceitful and wicked people who try to prey on him. Though he puts his hope and trust in the God, the stronghold in his life, he feels rejected and left alone with the thought of having to fight the enemies. But he should keep in mind that the Lord fights the battles for him.
Psalm 44: "Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love." This is the cry of David, who feels that God has humbled and rejected him and his people by allowing the adversaries to plunder and defeat him. He seems frustrated since God is not standing by his side to help him in the battles.
Psalm 45: "You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." We can see what standing people have who love righteousness and hate wickedness.
