Luke 1:57-66

마리아는 엘리사벳과 함께 석 달쯤 있다가 자기 집으로 돌아갔다. 엘리사벳은 해산할 달이 차서, 아들을 낳았다. 이웃 사람들과 친척들은, 주님께서 큰 자비를 그에게 베푸셨다는 말을 듣고서, 그와 함께 기뻐하였다. 아기가 태어난 지 여드레째 되는 날에, 그들은 아기에게 할례를 행하러 와서, 그의 아버지의 이름을 따서, 그를 사가랴라 하고자 하였다. 그러나 아기 어머니가 말하였다. "안 됩니다. 요한이라고 해야 합니다."사람들이 말하였다. "당신의 친척 가운데는 아무도 이런 이름을 가진 사람이 없습니다." 그들은 그 아버지에게 아기의 이름을 무엇으로 하려는지 손짓으로 물어 보았다. 그가 서판을 달라 하여 "그의 이름은 요한이다" 하고 쓰니, 모두들 이상히 여겼다. 그런데 그의 입이 곧 열리고 혀가 풀려서, 말을 하며 하나님을 찬양하였다. 이웃 사람들은 모두 두려워하였다. 이 모든 이야기는 유대 온 산골에 두루 퍼졌다.이 말을 들은 사람들은 모두 이 사실을 그들의 마음에 두고 "이 아기가 대체 어떤 사람이 될 것인가?" 하고 말하였다. 주님의 보살피는 손길이 그 아기와 함께 하시는 것이 분명했기 때문이다.When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, "No! He is to be called John."They said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who has that name." Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child. He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, "His name is John." Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God. The neighbors were all filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, "What then is this child going to be?" For the Lord's hand was with him.
