Luke 2:22-33

모세의 법대로 그들이 정결하게 되는 날이 차서, 그들은 아기를 주님께 드리려고 예루살렘으로 데리고 올라갔다. 그것은 주님의 율법에 기록된 바 "어머니의 태를 처음 여는 사내아이마다, 주님의 거룩한 사람으로 불릴 것이다" 한 대로 한 것이요, 또 주님의 율법에 이르신 바 "산비둘기 한 쌍이나, 어린 집비둘기 두 마리를 드려야 한다" 한 대로, 희생제물을 드리기 위한 것이었다. 그런데 마침 예루살렘에 시므온이라는 사람이 있었는데, 그 사람은 의롭고 경건한 사람이므로, 이스라엘이 받을 위로를 기다리고 있었고, 또 성령이 그에게 임하여 계셨다.그는 주님께서 세우신 그리스도를 보기 전에는 죽지 아니할 것이라는 성령의 지시를 받은 사람이었다. 그가 성령의 인도로 성전에 들어갔을 때에, 마침 아기의 부모가 율법이 정한 대로 행하고자 하여, 아기 예수를 데리고 들어왔다. 시므온이 아기를 자기 팔로 받아서 안고, 하나님을 찬양하여 말하였다. "주님, 이제 주님께서는 주님의 말씀을 따라, 이 종을 세상에서 평안히 떠나가게 해주십니다. 내 눈이 주님의 구원을 보았습니다.주님께서 이것을 모든 백성 앞에 마련하셨으니, 이는 이방 사람들에게는 계시하시는 빛이요, 주님의 백성 이스라엘에게는 영광입니다." 아기의 아버지와 어머니는, 시므온이 아기에 대하여 하는 이 말을 듣고서, 이상하게 여겼다.When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons." Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation,which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
