1 Thessalonians 2:7-12

물론 우리는 그리스도의 사도로서, 권위를 주장할 수도 있었습니다. 그러나 우리는 여러분 가운데서, 마치 어머니가 자기 자녀를 돌보듯이 유순하게 처신하였습니다. 우리는 이처럼 여러분을 사모하여, 여러분에게 하나님의 복음을 나누어 줄 뿐만 아니라, 우리 목숨까지도 기쁘게 내줄 생각이었습니다. 그것은 여러분이 우리에게 사랑을 받는 사람이 되었기 때문입니다. 형제자매 여러분, 여러분은 우리의 수고와 고생을 기억하고 있을 것입니다. 우리는 여러분 가운데 아무에게도 폐를 끼치지 아니하려고, 밤낮으로 일을 하면서 하나님의 복음을 여러분에게 전파하였습니다. 또, 신도 여러분을 대할 때에, 우리가 얼마나 경건하고 올바르고 흠 잡힐 데가 없이 처신하였는지는, 여러분이 증언하고, 또 하나님께서도 증언하십니다. 여러분이 아는 바와 같이, 아버지가 자기 자녀에게 하듯이, 우리는 여러분 하나하나를 대합니다. 우리는 여러분을 권면하고 격려하고 경고합니다마는, 그것은 여러분을 부르셔서 당신의 나라와 영광에 이르게 하시는 하나님께 합당하게 살아가게 하려는 것입니다. but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
