1 Timothy 1:1-5

우리의 구주이신 하나님과 우리의 소망이신 그리스도 예수의 명령으로 그리스도 예수의 사도가 된 나 바울이, 믿음 안에서 나의 참 아들이 된 디모데에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 하나님 아버지와 우리 주 그리스도 예수께서 내려주시는 은혜와 자비와 평화가 그대에게 있기를 바랍니다. 내가 마케도니아로 떠날 때에, 그대에게 에베소에 머물러 있으라고 부탁하였습니다. 그것은, 그대가 거기에서 어떤 사람들로 하여금 다른 교리를 가르치지 못하도록 명령하고, 신화와 끝없는 족보 이야기에 정신을 팔지 못하도록 명령하려는 것입니다. 그러한 것들은 믿음 안에 세우신 하나님의 경륜을 이루기보다는, 도리어 쓸데없는 변론을 일으킬 뿐입니다. 이 명령의 목적은 깨끗한 마음과 선한 양심과 거짓 없는 믿음에서 우러나오는 사랑을 불러일으키는 것입니다.Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
