Genesis 7: All of them were gone. Nothing survived except for Noah and his company on the ship lived. It's interesting to read that all the kinds of creatures that crawl and all the kinds of birds and anything that flies came to Noah and to the ship in pairs. It's not that Noah had to desperately try to capture them.
Genesis 8: At last God was appeased by the sweet fragrance of the burnt offering on the altar. Noah and his family were the only human remnants and at this point, the reset button has been pushed to re-start the history of mankind.
